It seems that these days there is something new happening every day. I'm not one to keep a written journal, as I tend to forget that it is there and often go several weeks or months between entries. An electronic "journal" of sorts just seems more practical.
So here I am. It's President's Day today and all the kids are off at their other parents' homes for the day. John is working from home today while I am working around the house. Laundry and dishes don't take holidays.
It's motivation that I find difficult when it comes to days like these. I understand that the laundry needs to be done and I want the laundry to get done, but I sure don't want to be the one to do it. John helps, but working from home for him means that he actually works, so it's not as if I can ask him to stop doing the real work (the one that pays the bills) to help me fold laundry. And, while I'm being honest, let's face it: folding laundry is the real work. I love loading up the washing machine with fresh-smelling detergent and tossing the dirty clothes in, moving them to the dryer (although I hate our actual washer and dryer), then taking out clean, fresh clothes. But then. They sit. In laundry baskets. On the floor of my room. And they pretty much stay there until I run out of laundry baskets or until John asks if he has any clean socks or if Ethan can't find any pants.
One thing I will say is that it is obvious how much I do not like doing laundry by the comparison of the contents of "my" kids dressers as compared to "his" kids dressers. (I don't really like separating the kids like that, but in this case, it is necessary.) Aidan and Emerson have enough clothing to last them close to two months without much laundering. Ethan has something like 4 pairs of pants and 8 shirts, of which there are only about 5 I let him wear. Perhaps it is because Ethan has outgrown all of his XS and S clothing and is now wearing M (he loves calling the sizes by the letter, not the actual name). It is very strange having two 5 year olds that wear such completely different sizes of clothing.
So I've spent about 30 minutes writing about how I hate doing laundry and now the dryer timer is going off. I suppose I should get to laundering.
